Tugba Karademir

Tugba is a 3L student in the English Common Law program. She was born in Turkey and moved to Canada to train with the best in her sport of figure skating. She competed at numerous international competitions including 2 Olympic Winter Games. In her 2nd year at UOttawa, she was part of the VIS moot team. She spent this summer working in a full service law firm (focusing on litigation) and will be articling there next year. She is known to be a friendly, approachable and kind person. She also travels the world teaching seminars in skating. Her favourite way to unwind is following a workout with cooking while dancing to music in her kitchen.

Bio: Klara is a 2L student in the English Common Law program. Originally from Hamilton, Ontario, she completed her undergraduate degree in Neuroscience at the University of Toronto. After coming to law school, she started working at the Centre for Health Law, Policy and Ethics where she explored Health Law-related issues like Medical Assistance in Dying, Mobile Health Privacy Laws, and Mental Health legislation. In her free time, she loves travelling (16 countries and counting), finding new food spots, outdoor sports, playing music and watercolour painting. She is always more than happy to help out and address your concerns. She also welcomes a friendly chat, whether it's related to law school, mental health, sci-fi, video games, or how to make wicked-good kimchi fried rice.

Maryse Piché Bénard

Bio: Maryse is finishing her final year of the French Common Law Program. Originally from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, she's been living in the Ottawa area for seven years now. She is deeply interested in language rights, administrative law and constitutional law. In her free time she dances salsa, makes fresh cheese, and finds new gastronomic innovations! Feel free to catch her in the hallways of Fauteux if you want to talk about restaurants, Western Canada or things to do in Ottawa!
In her role as Vice-President French, Maryse will be responsible for planning the famous Souper français as well as representing the French stream students. Talk to her about your concerns, whether it's about the curriculum, services in French on campus or any other initiative that you would like to implement for Francophone students.

Nicole Boyle

Bio: Nicole is a second year student in the English Common Law Program. ​Originally from Richmond Hill, ON, she moved to Ottawa to obtain a Bachelors in Biopharmaceutical Science at uOttawa, and has lived here ever since. This summer, she worked as a summer student at Smart & Biggar, a boutique intellectual property law firm in Ottawa. In her free time, she enjoys reading fantasy novels, lifting weights, dying her hair exciting colours, and working part-time as a lifeguard at City of Ottawa pools in the Byward Market.

Ellen Huang

Bio: Ellen is a third-year student in the combined French common law and political science program. She was born in Trois-Rivières, Quebec but completed high school in Ottawa and has also studied at the Faculty of Law in Lille, France. This summer, she competed in an International Court of Justice moot court at the University of Amsterdam and completed her second summer internship at an international private law firm in Paris. Other than school, Ellen is interested in criminal law and has interned for the Ticket Defense Program, and was elected as a senior editor and French submissions manager for the Ottawa Law Review. In her spare time, Ellen surrounds herself volunteering with dogs and at the University’s International Office, baking endless amounts of food for the faculty, her friends and family and at Beavertails, and striving to run half-marathons or obstacle races with her Golden Retriever every year. She is always available to listen to your concerns about the stressful experience of law school, life, eating good food in Ottawa, or any other issues that need an understanding ear.

Bio: Emily is a second year student in the English Common Law program. She is interested in criminal law and civil litigation (she just can’t pick...). She also loves teaching, learning, and sweating. Law school can be very stressful - e-mail me if you have any questions, about anything!

Bio: Bay is a 2L student in the English Common Law program. Originally from Ottawa, Ontario, she completed both her bachelor and masters in History at McGill University in Montreal. Before starting law school, Bay spent a year living abroad in Manchester.  After working at Stikeman Elliott this summer, Bay is excited to begin her second year. Bay is interested in the areas of technology, privacy and cybersecurity and is passionate about fashion, traveling, and history. She encourages you to reach out during your transition into law school and is always happy to help!

Nikita Atkinson is a 2L student in the English Common Law program. She is particularly interested in Wills & Estates and how proper estate planning can alleviate stress from family and optimize finances. When she is not hitting the books, you can find her taking a fitness class or at the gym. Bio: Olivia is a second-year Common Law student with an interest in Corporate law. Olivia is a bit of a nomad having lived in Winnipeg, Toronto, Norway, and England. Bio: Devin is a third-year Common Law student with an interest in litigation and wills/trusts/estates. As your VP Sports, he wants to put on fun sporting events so that you can meet new friends, gain positive experiences, and let off some of the steam that comes from studying. Contact him if you're interested in upcoming sporting events, joining intramurals, "Law Games", the med-law classic, and with all things athletic!
